Jiu Jitsu for Self Defense & Sport

Judo was introduced in 1882 as a sport utilizing the Jiu Jitsu style of fighting. Jiu Jitsu is the ancient martial art of Japan which uses strikes, wrist locks, arm bars, chokes, take downs, throws, and grappling. Emphasis is placed on using an opponent's size and strength against them. These are the techniques used by the Marine Corp. as well as law enforcement agencies around the world. Join Northern Illinois Martial Arts Institute Instructor (NIMAI), Wes Shuckhart, at the Byron Park District to learn these techniques of self-defense and sport! This program is meant for youth ages 10 years and older. Ask about our $10.00 additional family member discount!

Completion of a belt level (testing fee), acquisition of a uniform, new colored belt, and equipment will be an additional fee payable to the NIMAI instructor.


Tae Kwon Do

Northern Illinois Martial Arts Institute (NIMAI) provides the instruction for the Byron Park District's Tae Kwon Do classes! These classes are geared toward developing and improving students' coordination, balance, flexibility, and physical strength as well as assisting with confidence, focus, discipline, and sportsmanship. Join instructor Wes Shuckhart, in learning traditional and freestyle Tae Kwon Do including forms, weapons, sparring, and self-defense techniques. You will not only gain the fitness benefits but develop many other qualities that will carry over into other sports, wellness activities, and everyday life. This program is open to anyone 5 years and older. Adults are welcome! Ask about our $20.00 additional family member discount!
